This courageous Lab girl was almost giving up when she was discovered outside of a California shelter. Amber was nearly unable to raise her head and was terribly thin.
Then there was total heartache!
Other from a small Teddy bear she kept near to her, she had nothing. The sight of her tethered there, clinging to her fluffy friend, devastated her rescuers. Even so, that was not the complete tale.
Girl With The Sweetest Secret
Amber came with a litter on top of her illness!
Six little yellow babies were born that very night, when she was discovered and brought to a California shelter in the Bay Area.
“Laboratory yellow The DARP team posted on Facebook that Mama Amber, who was heavily pregnant, was abandoned tied to the shelter fence in the middle of the night and gave birth there the next day.
Fortunately, Amber felt somewhat safer since the kind shelter volunteers looked after her and kept her company during the whole procedure.
Hearing about Amber and her puppies, the Sonoma County, California, team of the Dogwood Animal Rescue Project made the decision to adopt them the following morning.
Amber was naturally pretty tired and anxious her first day at the rescue.
Her caregivers said on Facebook, “Her first 24 hours with us she mostly slept in her warm quiet bed, no doubt exhausted from being left at the shelter with her stuffy (which makes a good pillow) and from almost immediately going labor and delivering and caring for newborns.”
She was a great mother even with her illness, but she needed some time to rest.
At Last Cozy And Safe Inside
All along, she was a watchful mother who made sure her puppies were secure and fed. Tragically, one of her babies crossed the rainbow bridge not long after they transferred to the new facility.
The heartbreak was severe even if this was to be expected considering Amber’s levels of stress and her weight.
Having lost their furry family member, Amber and her hoomans both felt a great vacuum. They had to proceed however, for Amber and her other children.
A few weeks later, this courageous girl at last broke through her shell and her endearing, gentle personality was revealed!
Amber was the sweetest girl ever and her highly friendly demeanor enthralled everyone. She was behaving like a puppy even in her new mother role, wanting love and giving it to everyone.
Above all, though, her carers were overjoyed that Amber and her litter had at last been given another shot!
Ambers small family is secure and warm inside despite the cold, rainy, and windy weather outside. We are really grateful that we can offer them a loving, safe home,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.
She and her five kids are at last on the right track after a terrible past that was arguably the worst time of her life.
They must hereafter wait for the day when hoomans will enter that door with the sole intention of permanently joining their family!
