Petey and his sibling were dumped in a California park at a month old.
While lonely and afraid, the small warriors struggled for their life.
A mother and son passed by and found the two helpless puppies.
The mother quickly took them to the Sacramento SPCA, which aids homeless animals, realizing how severe it was.
Petey’s sibling perished.
Petey, with his small battling spirit, persisted.
The vet found sores and worms in his tummy.
He also had trouble walking.
Petey’s condition improved, although he still had problems walking.
“He couldn’t stand or walk without falling,” said SPCA Sarah Varanini. “At first we weren’t sure if this was due to malnutrition, disease or a congenital defect.”
It was later discovered that the dog had cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological disease that hinders walking.
Cerebellar hypoplasia is incurable, but Petey persevered.
He improved his eating and mobility with aid.
Petey was a happy, energetic puppy despite his issues.
He is great and joyful despite his condition.
A new home
Petey’s sickness made finding a family hard.
Finally, on a bright March day, the Sacramento SPCA found Petey the perfect family.
He lives happily ever after with folks that accept him.
Petey’s tale shows that all dogs need love and care, regardless of their limitations.
