In a Starbucks restroom, a 16-year-old girl was discovered dead from what appeared to be an overdose.
An employee of a Port Moody Starbucks discovered Gwynevere Staddon unconscious in the restroom, according to Global News.
Authorities in Port Moody claim that they were unable to resuscitate the teenager. She was discovered in possession of some paraphernalia and a tiny quantity of drugs.
According to CBC, Staddon’s mother Veronica “completely suspects” that her daughter passed because from a fentanyl overdose. Her official cause of death is still unknown.
“My best friend, my daughter, my sweetheart baby … I will never stop missing you,” the mother posted on Facebook. “My heart won’t stop breaking.”
Veronica claimed that Gwynevere has a lengthy history of substance misuse issues. She informed her mother that she had stopped using three weeks before she passed away.
Gwynevere had said, “I’ve quit, so I’m OK now, Mom,” Veronica remembered. “She thought, ‘One more time,’ as it was calling her name.” The final occasion was the one and only one.”
The wait lists for public clinics are too long, and Veronica claims she considered enrolling Gwynevere in treatment, but she was unable to pay for a private facility.
“If I don’t have $50,000 available, then they are not something I can use as a resource,” she stated to CBC.
“A natural entertainer is being lost to the world,” Veronica went on. “Either that, or a future politician.”
According to Veronica, more has to be done to help individuals in need of rehabilitation and to get drug dealers off the streets.
